Finding God

Does God need to be found?  Do we need to go to church or a temple to “find” Him?  Is there a special way to pray that finds Him?

The answer to these questions is no.

God does not need to be found because God is present with you right now. God is always with you.

God is within you and all around you. He is above, below, in front, and in back of you.

He reaches out and calls you in every moment to be in relationship with Him.

He “speaks” to you in a million different ways to get your   attention. He longs for you to be in relationship with Him.

God loves you right now, here and forever.

The question is not does God need to be found but rather how do we stop running, hiding, or simply ignoring God?

The first step is simple acknowledgement that He is with you. When you do this, you open the door for God to show up in your life.

The second step is simple awareness that He is with you. This means consciously focusing your thoughts not on being alone in this

world but rather thinking about God being with you always. God is there when your life is going well and when the challenges of this

world overwhelm you. Thinking this will lead you to believing this and ultimately to knowing it.

Finally, the last step is simply making time in your life to get quiet with God. By devoting time every day to building your relationship

with Him, you allow the best relationship you will ever have to grow and flourish. Start small and build it up, bit by bit. I always suggest

starting with a simple five minutes in the morning and five minutes at bedtime.

You do not need any fancy prayers, just be still, quiet your mind, breathe deeply and say, “Hi God I am here ready for a relationship

with You!”

That is all it takes to start.

1 Corinthians 3:16 (NIV)

16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 139 1:14 (NIV)

You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.

13 For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.

Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.
