Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Reach A Settlement In 11 Days! Why?

Tom Cruise (50) and Katie Holmes (33) announced on Monday morning that both sides had settled the divorce action just 11 days after the actress filed the papers.
The news came shortly after the pair released a joint statement to People, saying, “We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”
Although there have been reports on the supposed terms of the divorce settlement between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, including restrictions on Suri Cruise’s nannies to her exposure to Scientology, Holmes’ lawyer is saying they are all bunk.
“There are numerous inaccuracies in the reports regarding the purported contents of the agreement reached between the parties,” said attorney Jonathan Wolfe. “The agreement is confidential and its terms will not be disclosed.”
Bree’s Insight:
Such a quick divorce settlement brings up more questions about what was really going on in this relationship. This move has prompted more suspicions that it was done in order to quiet the public attention on the church of Scientology.
Looking at this story objectively, one sees a mother/wife who strategically surprised her world-famous husband with divorce papers requesting full custody. In most relationships in which such behavior occurred, the father/husband would come back fighting incredibly hard. He certainly would not lay down dead and agree to such terms in 11 days. However, if he had something to hide or did not want exposed he would be more likely to agree to a settlement as fast as possible.
We may never know for sure what really happened in Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ relationship to cause such a shocking and quick split. However, we do know that something not only went wrong in their relationship, but that Cruise will not be jointly raising their daughter.
I find that it is this move that is actually more of a shock then their split. For the amount of fame and money Cruise has, which certainly could have at least bought him joint custody, why did he so freely give that up?
At this point any thoughts on the matter are mere speculation. However, the one thing I do know for sure is that every child needs both parents to be very involved in their raising.
The only time this is not in the child’s best interest is when one or both parents are neglectful, abusive, or addicted to some form of substance or maladaptive behavior.
On the outside looking in, none of these appears to apply to Cruise. That being said, let’s hope that as this media spectacle dies down, little Suri will have everything she needs to grow up to become a healthy and functioning adult.
